WILTSHIRE cricket's development XI slipped to a 25-run defeat in the first innings of their latest five-county championship match against Hertfordshire.
The U19 side had their hosts reeling early on at Henley, with Hertfordshire totalling just 27 runs for the loss of six wickets. But arecovery led by number eight batsman Paul Barker (121) saw the home side steady the ship at 231.
In reply, Wiltshire amassed 205 before they were dismissed. Ollie Smith was the leading scorer with 57.
Herefordshire were then 65-3 in their second innings when the heavens opened and rain stopped play. But the five-county championship is scored predominantly on the first innings, so Wiltshire pick up seven points and Hertfordshire 16. Wiltshire's next match is a home tie against Oxfordshire at Swindon on Tuesday.
