A GOAL from James Lye in the dying seconds of injury time clinched the Ken Clarke Memorial six-a-side competition for the second successive season for Corsham Centre FC A.
The club proved it has strength in depth when the final ended up as a showdown between their A and B teams.
The annual curtain raiser to the Chippenham Sunday League attracted 32 sides to West Lavington Playing Fields on Sunday.
Corsham Centre weren't the only winners on the day as Spencer Sports A won a nail-biting penalty shoot out against Corsham Park Rangers to lift the inaugural Memorial Plate trophy, which was introduced to give the bottom two sides of each of the eight groups of four teams a competition of their own.
After coming through the group stages with a perfect record Corsham Centre A met Parsons Nose B and progressed to the last eight thanks to a solitary goal from Shane Godsell.
The Centre overcame hosts West Lavington in the quarter-final as Matthew Ralph's solitary strike booked Corsham Centre A their place in the last four.
The Centre's B side enjoyed one of the results of the day as Parsons Nose A were put to the sword, thanks mainly to a fine display from Luke Denham who bagged a brace, Paul Park and Scott Lye completed the quartet.
Goalkeeper James Whitehead was Corsham Centre B's hero in their semi-final penalty shootout victory over Kings Arms A.
Corsham Centre A also needed penalties to beat Box Rovers in their semi. Three superbly converted spot kicks from James Lye, Matt Ralph and Kevin O'Mahony put them through.
In the final both Centre sides cancelled each other out and in a game of few clear cut chances if any side looked likely to win the game in normal time it looked as if it would be the B team.
But with just 15 seconds remaining up popped James Lye to squeeze the ball between keeper James Whitehead's legs to earn the Centre's A team a 1-0 win.
In the plate between Spencer A and Corsham Park both teams had half chances before Dan King broke the deadlock for Spencer after five minutes.
Two minutes later Corsham Park drew level, thanks to Paul Smith who stroked home the equaliser from the penalty spot.
With no further goals in normal time or extra time Spencer's keeper Tim Knight gave his side the lead in the penalty shootout. Then he saved two spot kicks to seal victory for his side.
Margaret Clarke and Andy Hillier presented the trophies sponsored by Westernsport Trophies of Chippenham to the referees and players.
Organiser Andy Hillier said: "We are very grateful to everyone for their support and help on the day, especially the match officials and people who worked behind the scenes to get the event up and running and thought that the day ran smoothly once it got underway
"It is hoped that at a later date we will be able to present a cheque of £1,000 to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Fund.''
CHIPPENHAM Sunday League side KSM are still looking for a goalkeeper. Any interested party should phone either Matt Scoble (01249 658936) or Kevin Henderson (01249 758835) for further details.
