A MARKET Lavington couple have renewed their appeal for more drains in the road after last week's cloudbursts brought flood water into their home.
Gordon and Ann Ingram, who live in The Spring close to its junction with Grove Farm Road, were horrified to see the flood water from the downpour inching closer and closer to their front door.
Mrs Ingram said: "It was very frightening. Once it had passed the white line in the road outside, I knew it was coming for us. What was so terrifying was how quick it happened. One moment it had reached the pavement and the next it was seeping in under the door.
"The last time this happened was 24 years ago. We asked the council to put in more drains but, of course, nothing happened.
"This time it was worse. The water not only came through the front door, but the back as well. We didn't know what to do first. We were running around like headless chickens."
The flood water subsided within an hour, leaving Mr and Mrs Ingram with soggy carpets to dry out.
Mr Ingram said: "There is only one storm drain and if the manholes get blocked by rubbish the water has nowhere to go except into our house. The water all runs down from the village and this is the lowest point. The cars going past didn't even slow down. Some of them drove like maniacs through it. They thought it was great fun. But the bow wave made things a lot worse for us."
Kennet District Council has supplied the Ingrams and their neighbours with sand bags. It has passed on the couple's appeal for better drainage in the road to Wiltshire County Council.
