A MAN was grabbed around the neck, repeatedly punched in the face and threatened with a knife as he walked home.

The attack took place along the footpath between Farnsby Street and the old canal at 11.45pm Tuesday.

The offender demanded money and then punched the victim in the face several times.

Another offender then held a knife to the victim's body.

Fearing further attack, the victim struggled free and ran to safety. The two offenders then ran off, as a possible female witness was heard shouting at them.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and a cut to his hand.

The first man was white, between 5f t8ins and 5ft 10ins, of thin build with short hair.

The second was white, in his mid 20s, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins, of thin build with short, dark hair.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, particularly the woman who they say may have helped prevent a more serious crime from taking place.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Swindon police on 01793 528111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
