GAZETTE & HERALD: CHILDREN in Calne will get the chance to see what their town can offer them in an inaugural youth festival, and one officer is even cycling the breadth of the country to help.
Coun Carol O'Gorman and Pete Hill, the partnership anti-social behaviour reduction officer for North Wiltshire, have thrown their weight behind a scheme to show the young people activities they can take part in.
Mr Hill is also cycling from Land's End to John O' Groats to raise money for the free event.
Mr Hill said: "If you can improve the resources of young people in your area that's going to be good for the community.
"There's going to be loads of activities and we are keeping our overheads down by getting free help, but we have no money for it, so some of the money I raise will go towards it.
"We've asked people and groups to come together to tell people what's on offer.
"What I hope is a young person may go along and talk to someone there and find out something is in the town they did not know about."
"Obviously the young people do represent the future of the community and any community that can provide anything for young people are providing for the future.
"This opportunity can really inspire them and improve their lifestyle and that will stay with them."
The event will take place on September 11 although complete details have not been confirmed.
