GAZETTE & HERALD: MOTHER Nicky Randall is amazed at how much help she has been given since the Gazette reported about her severely disabled daughter in June.

Ms Randall, 22, has had help from a host of volunteers to decorate her new house in Penn Hill Road with help from CMA Buildbase in Oxford Road, Calne.

Now the Lions Club of Calne has donated £675 for a new bed for Jade.

Ms Randall said: "We have gone for a fully electric bed which raises or lowers and you can tilt the head up or down which is ideal for Jade.

"It makes it a lot easier for us to access her too which is good for my back.

"She loves it and rolls around it there and thinks it's playtime.

"We have also got some new bumper sides on order so she doesn't fall out and they come further up the bed than cot bumpers so she doesn't climb out."

Ms Randall's daughter Jade, three, developed a catalogue of medical problems after she stopped growing inside the womb at just 28 weeks.

Scans showed she was tiny and that her left hand was also unformed and further shocks were to come.

Born six weeks early and weighing just two pounds and 13 ounces, doctors found she had a chromosome abnormality that had severely affected her physical development.

During eight weeks in newborn intensive care, they also realised Jade's eyes were not properly formed, giving her limited vision.

Just five months after Jade was born, Nicky's partner Jade's father, left. He has had no contact with his daughter since.

Welfare chairman Terry Reynolds said that the Lions have wanted to help from the moment they learnt about Jade.

Ms Randall said that she is now just waiting for a lift to be installed and some doors widened and the house will be finished. "It's fantastic. Since we first asked for some help through the Gazette we have been completely swamped.

"You really would not recognise the house. It is completely transformed."
