A FESTIVAL promoting a greener lifestyle takes place at the Lawn in Old Town later this month.

The Forest Festival is now in its sixth year and continues to celebrate trees and their products.

The free one-day event, which takes place on August 28, will feature traditional and contemporary woodland skills that people can either watch or try.

Some of the attractions include drumming workshops, willow sculpture, theatre, juggling and circus skills.

Children will be able to take part in making hats, masks and bird boxes, as well as clay modelling, face painting and t-shirt painting.

Storytellers and puppeteers will also entertain them.

Local folk and blues bands will be playing alongside groups with an international flavour such as Asian dhol drummers in the main stage which will run on solar and bicycle power.

The acoustic stage will feature local singer songwriters.

Basket makers, wood turners, and clog and furniture makers will also be demonstrating their skills.

The event has the support of the Great Western Community Forest. There is no parking at the festival site but there will be a free park and ride service from the Nationwide car park.

A six-mile forest walk will start at 10am from the Lawn. For more details and to book a place, call 01793 466324 or go to www.forestweb.org.uk.
