Ref. 21227-02WOMEN IN THE MONEY: Hilary Pitts, 53, is director of education for Swindon Council.
The salary band for her job is between £58,000 to £77,000
She says: "I do believe that it is how well you do the job, not what sex you are that is important, but recognise that some male dominated businesses fail to give women the chance to prove themselves.
"I think it is true that women often have to be twice as assertive and successful in achieving their goals than men in order to be recognised.
"However, in my experience, Swindon Council is a very fair employer and I enjoy working for them.
"There are many challenges in my job but it is great to be part of the drive to improve the quality of education for all pupils in Swindon schools.
"My two years in Swindon have seen many successes for pupils and schools and this helps fuel my enthusiasm and optimism for the future even further. By working with our teachers, governors, pupils and parents, in partnership with other council teams and our community partners, we can achieve the very best for Swindon's children and young people."
