I READ with disbelief your front page article entitled 'Road closure trouble free' (Gazette, July 29).

In particular I found the statement "a small increase in traffic" referring to Market Lavington a major understatement.

I would like to make it known that the traffic on Spin Hill has

increased immensely.

This in itself would not constitute too much of a problem had the much fought for 30mph speed limit have been implemented before the

partial closure of the A360.

My husband rang County Hall last week to suggest it would be prudent to impose an emergency speed

restriction on Spin Hill before the road closure.

Unfortunately, despite a promise that the matter would receive

consideration and that "someone will get back to you," nothing

further has been heard from County Hall. The courtesy of a reply would have been appreciated.

County Hall will no doubt state that Spin Hall is not a designated

diversion route. Yet somebody has placed a sign at the bottom of the hill encouraging use of this route. Also, should anybody come upon Black Dog crossroads there is only one way they can go via Spin Hill.

Children and families cycle along Spin Hill. Children cross the road along Spin Hill. They do so more during the summer holidays than in term time and they now have to

contend with a huge increase in traffic, travelling at a speed that has long been declared excessive. Why should children be exposed to this risk?

I have no illusions regarding any action being taken as a result of this letter and pray that my fears are not realised. Nobody is going to take

responsibility are they?

Yet again the residents of Spin Hill and Market Lavington have been ignored. The risk of another fatal accident on this road has been greatly increased by the short sightedness of the powers that be at County Hall.
