WARMINSTER put themselves in pole position in the race for promotion on Saturday with a comprehensive seven-wicket win at home to title rivals Stroud.

Their sixth win in a row saw them leapfrog their opponents and second placed Redmarley to the top of the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Division One.

Having been relegated last season, Warminster captain Mark Coxon-Tenty said it was the club's aim to bounce straight back and he is now confident they can do it.

He said: "If we play like we have been doing in the last few weeks I see no reason why we can't win our last three games to ensure promotion.

"Saturday was a fantastic result as we outplayed the team that were top of the league. We have always felt we were good enough to play in a division above and hopefully we will prove that. We have another big game at Redmarley tomorrow but with the confidence we have got at the moment, we have to believe we can do it."

Sean Maxwell (119 not out) and Coxon-Tenty (51) were again the heroes as they produced a match- winning third wicket partnership.

Following the previous week's 128 run partnership at Goatacre, the duo put together a stand of 168 as the hosts eased to the 196-run total Stroud had set them, with seven wickets in hand.

The pick of Warminster's bowlers was Tony Aylesbury, who took four wickets for 39 off 15 overs, while Robert Nash also picked up three wickets for 39.
