CORSHAM captain Neil Shardlow is at a loss to explain his side's stuttering season after Saturday's four-wicket defeat at Taunton.

Corsham have been unable to string together a good run of results this season and again, after a good result at home to Bath the previous week, they were immediately brought back down to earth.

Shardlow admits inconsistency has blighted their season but is unable to explain the reasons for it.

He said: "We just can't get a good run going.

"Every time we think we have turned a corner, we go and lose our next game.

"It is very frustrating but we have to try and do something about it. It would be good if we get some positive results in our last three matches."

Going into the game full of confidence after beating West of England Premier Division One champions Bath the previous week, Corsham fell short of the standards they had set.

Losing the toss and put into bat first, they started steadily, if not spectacularly, to reach 51-2, with opener Tom Abbott scoring 22.

Indian all-rounder Kaushik Aphale then upped the tempo with some powerful batting and he scored 79 before being caught by Rob Berry off the bowling of Reg Keates.

Keates bowled his way through Corsham's middle order and tail-end as the visitors went from 103-4 to 153 all out.

In reply, Taunton started well with Keates (28) and Lee Cooper (14) putting on 43 for the first wicket.

But with the home side on 71-1, Richard Foley took the next four wickets for the just 39 runs as Taunton slipped to 110-6, to give Corsham fresh hope of securing an unlike victory.

It was not to be though as James Hudson (27 not out), and Lee Hart, (20 not out), steered Taunton past their target with 15 overs remaining.
