28545/2CHILDREN at a Melksham nursery have been doing their bit to help youngsters in India get an education.
Pupils at Snapdragons Nursery each paid £1 to take part in a different activity every day this week to help expand the Tulsi Shisu Mander School in Mahya Pradesh.
Lisa Missen from the nursery said: "It is a lot of fun for the children and hopefully we will raise a little bit of money for the cause."
On Monday the children got the chance to try karaoke, the following day was world food day when they were encouraged to sample a wide range of different foodstuffs from around the world.
On Wednesday the day had an Indian theme, with the children arriving dressed in Indian-style outfits.
Yesterday was water day and the week ends in grand style with a teddy bears' picnic today.
The activities followed on from a fundraising fete held at the weekend by Snapdragons in Bath, which raised over £700.
The nurseries are supporting the school in India after Jane Mondal, of Westwood, who works at the Bath nursery went to the country on a backpacking trip.
Mrs Mondal realised there was little educational provision for children in the Madhya Pradesh area and began fundraising on her return. Her efforts resulted in a school catering for 160 youngsters but now it is full and she is trying to raise a further £8,000-£10,000 to build a second floor.
Anyone interested in making a donation or helping with an event can call Mrs Mondal on (01225) 338101.
