AFTER weeks of uncertainty Lee Burns has finally decided on his future and signed for Westbury United.

The former Chippenham Town captain has been in demand ever since he quit Odd Down but this week he committed himself to Westbury to bolster their Screwfix League Division One campaign.

Burns, 37, also had offers from Trowbridge Town, Melksham Town and Larkhall Athletic.

Burns said: "When I left Odd Down, I was all ready to retire gracefully and it did amaze me the amount of interest I got from other clubs.

"It has been a horrible few weeks because I have been running so many things over in my mind about who to join.

"I can't wait for the season to start now as I can concentrate on playing football and trying to win something in what will probably be my last season.

"In the end, I thought I have already played for Larkhall in the past so decided it would be good to play somewhere new.

"In the few times I have played for Westbury I have seen some really good stuff and the management have been totally honest with me.

"Westbury have a reputation of playing the long ball and as I like to play football maybe I can bring them a extra dimension.

"From what they have been saying to me, they would like me to share some of my experience, after all I have managed Bath City reserves and know a bit about football."

A dramatic slump in form towards the end of last season saw Westbury from being promotion hopefuls to mid table mediocrity but Burns insists he has joined the club for success.

He said: "I would not join the club unless I thought they were capable of winning something.

"They have some very good players and we will be up there."

Westbury's penultimate pre-season match ended in disappointment as they crashed 4-1 to Odd-Down. Mark Pearce was United's goalscorer.
