GLENN Armstrong continued his good pre-season form with a brace on Saturday as Calne finished their warm-up schedule in style.
The striker has now bagged six goals in six friendly matches and looks to have regained the form that made one of the league's most prolific players two seasons ago.
Playing against a side one league higher than them in the non-league pyramid, Calne produced an impressive battling display in a match that also saw Armstrong miss a penalty.
Manager Kelvin Highmore said: "We played well again.
"Although it was looking a bit dodgy in the first 15 minutes when they played us off the park, we improved and in the end deserved to win.
"Bassett are a very lively side and the game was a good test for us with the season so close now.
"But we have again showed we are up to it.
"Glenn is looking sharp which is great news for us but the match was not just about him there were some other very good performances."
Former Melksham Town defender Justin Messenger played the second half for Calne on Saturday and has now committed himself at Bremhill View for the rest of the season.
Highmore said: "It has been a long hard battle to get Justin here but we have done it, despite an 11th hour attempt from Devizes to get him.
"He will increase competition for places and he impressed in the 45 minutes he played."
