ALAN Webb celebrated sealing a move to Corsham Town on Saturday with the decisive goal in their 2-0 win at home to Swindon Supermarine.

The former Purton striker scored his second goal in two pre-season matches after Dave Kilmurray had given the hosts an early lead.

Webb, who also scored a hat-trick in his first game for the reserves, has impressed in his two appearances in the red shirt of Corsham and his displays have earned him a contract at the Southbank this season.

Webb, 22, said: "I have known Colin Bush since I played for him at Chippenham under 18s. I then joined Malmesbury and for the last three years have been playing for Purton.

"At Purton last season we won the league but were not allowed promotion into the Hellenic Premier Division because we did not have any floodlights.

"I felt I was at a dead end and so looked for a new club. I was set on joining Malmesbury again but then Colin offered me the chance to go to Corsham."

Webb will face competition from Alan Griffin, Scott Lye, Dave Kilmurray and Matthew Ward, for a starting place but he is prepared to bide his time.

He said: "I haven't been guaranteed a starting place and I wouldn't expect to be either.

"But Colin has promised I will get a chance and it is up to me to take it.

"This is a great chance for me because it is a step up and I am really looking forward to it.

"There are some very good players here and I know it will not be easy but it is down to me to prove I am good enough."

Corsham completed an unbeaten pre-season with a 1-0 win at Biddestone on Tuesday night.

The visitors created most of the chances but a gritty display from the Screwfix league new boys meant Corsham had to settle for Jack Cullis's only goal.
