MANY people have expressed concern that Wiltshire council tax payers' interests are being sacrificed to those of Swindon with the proposal to relocate the record office.
The county council is prepared to allow the minority partner, Swindon, to dictate the location of the new facility, despite the fact it will be inaccessible to many from the south of the county.
This philosophy of kowtowing to Swindon, and disregarding its own county town of Trowbridge, seems to permeate the whole county council.
The latest Wiltshire tourism brochure, Welcome to Wiltshire, has precisely one sentence about Trowbridge. This apparently is a marked improvement on last year when it was not mentioned at all!
In the Swindon tourist brochure Wiltshire appears only as a map showing the location of Swindon.
The towns within the county are not mentioned in the text at all. Why plug Swindon if they do not reciprocate?
Is there a deliberate policy of denigrating the county town in the county council or are all these problems merely coincidence?
AS MASON,
Melksham.
