28528/2WASTE management firm Douston has boosted a pro-recycling campaign in west Wiltshire by moving to the county town.
The Bristol-based company has opened a new depot in Riverway, Trowbridge, which will help West Wiltshire District Council meet its increased recycling targets.
Douston Waste Manage-ment is a skip hire firm specialising in recycling domestic and commercial waste.
Its Trowbridge base, The Maltings Transfer Station, covers west and north Wiltshire with a next-day skip delivery service.
Trowbridge manager Colin Butt said: "Our move comes at a time when West Wiltshire District Council is highlighting how the area currently recycles around 10 per cent of waste. But the target is 21 per cent by next year.
"We believe we can play a full part in helping to achieve this target."
The news comes as the district council begins a fortnight of roadshows advising residents in Trowbridge and Melksham how to recycle compostable waste before they receive green bins to recycle grass cuttings, leaves and tea bags next month.
Residents who missed this week's roadshows can still get along to Tesco Trowbridge (August 23), Lidl, Trowbridge (August 24) and Sainsbury's Melksham (August 25).
The mobile sessions are being backed by the Wiltshire Times' Don't Refuse, Reuse campaign. As part of this we have asked readers to write in with their recycling stories.
Anthony Little wrote to
tell us of his attempts to
recycle newspapers at his workplace, Watersmead nursing home in Westbury.
He said: "My efforts have been in vain as there are 100 plus newspapers a week being thrown out straight into the dustbins.
"The senior carer instructed the cleaners to put them out for rubbish and not to let me have them to take home for recycling, which has annoyed me greatly.
"There are also quite a number of tins from the kitchen which are thrown out and could be salvaged.
"It wants a council refuse officer to call and try to convince them to recycle."
Meanwhile The Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organ-isation (Alupro) is using the increased consumption of canned drinks over the summer to encourage people to do their bit.
Recyclers who want to get cash for their aluminium cans can take them to E J Shanley and Son in Warminster (01985) 213348 or Trowbridge (01225) 753333.
