FLOODING on a village road between Holt and Staverton could be a thing of the past if roadworks to repair drainage have the desired effect.
The B3107, between Holt and Staverton causeway, a regular casualty of flooding, is shut until the end of August for repair work.
The worn-out surface will be replaced with repairs to the drainage and kerbs to ensure the road stays flood-free when the winter rain sets in.
Wiltshire County Council is funding the project with contractors Ringway Parkman carrying out the work.
A spokesman for the county council said: "The road surface had worn out and was top of our list for highway improvements.
"The drainage work is needed because there have been difficulties with the drains blocking, causing some flooding problems during heavy rain.
"There will be improvements to visibility on a right of way crossing the road in order to make it safer for pedestrians to cross. Hedges will be cut back.
"We consulted the parish council and the landowner before beginning the work."
