28542/2CHILDREN with special needs have been entertained in a two-week programme of events and activities in Trowbridge.
West Wiltshire Special Needs Activity Scheme has been held at Walwayne Court Primary School for over sixes and Stepping Stones Infant School, for younger children, for the last two weeks running between 10am and 3pm.
Co-ordinator Gill Morris said: "We take 41 children a day, all of varying ages and special needs.
"We have entertainers, arts classes, soft play as much as we can fit in really."
A puppet show by the Ticklish Allsorts, dance therapy sessions, circus acts, a visit from Kooky the Clown, a trip to Longleat, building clown mobiles and meeting firemen were some of the activities on offer.
Mrs Morris said: "They all thoroughly enjoy it and we get tears at the end of the day because they think they won't be able to come back."
On Wednesday Christmas arrived early for the children, when the Activity Scheme helpers put up a Christmas tree and decorations, and all the children took a present home.
Each child had one-on-one support from a volunteer carer. Each child and volunteer was given a t-shirt, paid for by extra money given to the scheme last year.
