MATCH of the day on the first day of the Plaister Autos Wiltshire League tomorrow could well be at the Premier Club, where last season's Premier Division runners-up, AFC Stratton, entertain Bradford Town, writes RAY BURROUGHS.
Bradford were the Premier Division's highest scorers last season and finished in fourth. They also lifted the Corsham Print Senior Cup and have re-signed all of last season's players, including striker Tom Pang, who hit more than 30 goals.
Stratton manager Stef Kuczynski will be without two or three of last season's troops, but is quite happy with the way their positions have been filled by some talented youngsters.
Another manager happy with his squad is Cricklade boss Graham Jackson. They entertain Devizes Town, and several of the clubs under 16 and 17-year-olds have been showing up well in pre-season games.
"There's plenty of enthusiasm at the club and hopefully we can be a bit more consistent this season," said Jackson.
Westbury finished strongly last term and could be tough opposition for Aldbourne. Pete Orsie's side has a knack of stepping up against good sides and could surprise their visitors.
New College could be in for a stern test at Warminster in their first match in the Premier Division,.
Calne Town Reserves, also newcomers to the division, are at home to Shrewton United and Bromham visit Corsham. Chiseldon Castrol boss Graham Clements will be hoping his side canenjoy better fortune this season, having been beaten by the odd goal on nine occasions last term. They visit Melksham Town and a point will be a good result.
Purton Reserves, who fell away badly last season, visit Pewsey Vale and Wroughton, who lost their senior status due to ground problems, start the season in Junior Division One with an away game against Blyskawica.
Last season's Junior Two champions Swindon Asians play Westside and Ferndale Rodbourne are at home to Biddestone.
There are a host of new sides in Junior Division Two, including Castle Combe, Chippenham United and Bromham Reserves, who, together with Tidworth, will provide opposition from all over the county for the Swindon sides.
