SWINDON Supermarine boss Mark Collier has underlined the importance of making a good start in Division One West, but his preparations have been hit ahead of the opening game.
Marine travel to Bedworth tomorrow, without a trio of key players so an already small squad will be stretched to the limit.
Defensive linchpin Steve Davies (pictured left) is on an ill-timed holiday, as is midfielder Tony Joyce who has made the switch from Highworth.
Winger Simon Futcher a shining light in pre-season misses the first three games after his sending off against Evesham in April. Steve Bennett is also doubtful with a calf strain.
Former Swindon Town youngster James Hambidge should be drafted in for his competitive debut, along with new player-assistant Ian Howell who has just returned from three months of coaching in America.
Dave Toomey will lead the line after agreeing a deal to stay at Hunts Copse this week.
Said Collier: "A good start in this division is paramount for everyone, but especially for us because we've got such a young side and they need that confidence boost early on."
Opponents Bedworth traditionally struggle, but new manager Mark Hallam has drafted in nine new faces and a big improvement is expected.
