The company, which has its European sales and marketing headquarters offices in the Delta Business Park, Swindon, handed over £2,500 to Re-Solv UK yesterday.

Cash was raised through Reckitt Benckiser's Dettol Foundation, which supports good causes in the Swindon area.

Re-Solv aims to prevent Volatile Substance Abuse through education in schools, advice to retailers and a helpline.

It provides information packs and training for GPs, drug action team, prison staff, police and young offenders institutions.

The charity estimates that 15 per cent of 17 year olds in schools have admitted to substance abuse and say about 70 people a year die after sniffing aerosols.
