SAVE OUR POST OFFICES:JO Osorio of Age Concern Swindon says scores of pensioners will suffer if the three post offices close.
He said: "We are dismayed at the prospect of losing local post offices.
"Thousands of older people rely on the service provided near their home to collect benefits."
Despite moves towards Direct Payment, whereby pensions are automatically paid into bank accounts, Mr Osorio insists there is still a need for local post offices.
He said: "The Government has announced that from October people unable to manage an account will still be able to receive a weekly uncrossed cheque cashable at post offices or a bank, but this will be of no use to anyone unable to reach either because they have been closed."
Michael Wills, MP for North Swindon, has also expressed concern over the possible closures.
Two of the under-threat branches Ferndale Road and Oxford Road are in his constituency.
Taking time out from a holiday to comment, he said: "I am very concerned about this news. These post offices are a real lifeline for many of my constituents and I very much hope they can be kept open."
