Ref. 71764-38PEOPLE are being invited to chill out for charity at a festival being planned for next year.
The Chillin' for Charity event is due to take place in the Town Gardens on July 9, 2005. Organiser Wade Hunkin, 20, is now embarking on a series of events to raise the £1,500 necessary to hold the festival which will consist of DJs and local bands.
He said: "Any money we make at the festival will be going to charity, hopefully to Children's Cancer & Leukaemia Movement (CALM).
"We are holding a launch party at Revolution on September 19. Lots of DJs are giving their time for nothing. A competition is being held for local DJs. Whoever wins will be the DJ at the main event next year."
Wade grew up in Cape Town in South Africa before his Swindonian mother Bridget decided to return home six years ago. He now lives in the town centre.
He worked initially in catering but is now a production welder at Swindon Pressings. He would like to work for a club as a promoter and later start his own record label.
He said: "I've been involved in the local music scene for a while now. I have worked at the Brunel Rooms doing sound and lighting, and I've also done various DJ-ing events.
"I'm hoping that these events will help kick-start local music and DJ acts from Swindon. There's a lot of talent here and some good opportunities in the music industry." Anyone wanting more information can telephone 07990 868001 or email wade at breakin-thru@email.com
