Corsham were the victors in their first ever Screwfix Premier division home match at the Southbank on Tuesday night.
Corsham were the better of the two sides and had a host of chances in the first half before taking the lead.
Manager Colin Bush was pleased to get Corsham's first ever Screwfix Premier points after his side went down to a late winner on Saturday. He said: "We played extremely well from start to finish. We had many chances and their keeper made a fist full of saves."
It took Corsham ten minutes to score. Dan Beck made a great run down the right hand side and swung in a fantastic ball. Alan Griffin volleyed it in to put the home side one nil up.
After that Corsham looked dangerous with set pieces, and Griffin missed the chance to double his tally when his header glanced over. After that the Melksham goalkeeper Gareth Evans made a good stretched save from a Scott Lye drive.
Corsham then let Melksham back into the game when Rob Ivormore was brought down in the box to give the visitors a penalty. Owen Bryant stepped up and made no mistake.
With the scores level at half time Bush was worried that his team's hard work would have been for nothing. He said: "I was disappointed at half time because we had come so close on many occasions. We had the better of the first half. It was a similar position to the Torrington game."
The second half saw Corsham come out to win the game. Bush said: "It was a case of when we would score. To be fair they were holding on and Cheeseman had a great game. Jason Lunt held them together at the back."
Melksham almost held out for a point until the goal finally came for Corsham. The ball come in and a chance was missed by Alan Griffin when he mis hit his shot. A goal line scramble insued and Dave Killmurray ended up scoring a sloppy goal to steal the points for Corsham.
Melksham manager Nigel Tripp was disappointed that his side could not bring home a point. He said: "The last goal upset me. We could have blasted it but tried to pass it and lost possession."
Corsham have their second local derby in a row on Saturday when they play hosts to Devizes and Bush admits that it will be a tough test. He said: We still need to find our feet in this division. Melksham and Devizes have massive experience in this league, we have not."
