GAZETTE & HERALD: Deputy Town Clerk Linda Wakefield is trying to get Calne's War Memorial listed to preserve it for future generations.
The war memorial, in the grounds of St. Mary's Church, was built in 1926 to honour those that died in the First World War and names have been added for those who have died in combat since.
Mrs Wakefield said the memorial should be protected to honour those who have fought for the country.
"They should never be forgotten. It's important that we remember what they have done.
"Getting the memorial listed will protect it and it will help us get funding from English Heritage to look after it."
Mrs Wakefield said maintenance work needs to be done to the memorial such as repairing the black lettering on the Portland stone structure.
"The town council looks after it and has it cleaned and over time the lettering starts to fade.
"We are looking to have it repaired before it's faded too much."
Mrs Wakefield said as part of the application she needs to find out about the history of the memorial.
"The application will secure the memorial and then it cannot be moved. It protects it like any other listed building."
If anybody has any information on the memorial to help the application please contact Linda Wakefield on (01249) 814000.
