Ref. 71806-15SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: REGULARS at the Cricketers have once again been rewarded for using pedal power to boost the Swindon Cancer Appeal.
For the second year running, the pub has received a commemorative shield for entering the biggest team in the Macmillan Bike Ride.
Thirteen drinkers from the Emlyn Square pub raised £1,000 for the appeal by taking part in the 25-mile ride.
They were presented with the shield by Andrew and Janice Mitchell, of Mitchell Cycles, in Shrivenham Road, which sponsors the event.
Lynda Mills, who runs the Cricketers, said: "Every part of me was sore and sunburnt at the end of the day but we had a fabulous time.
"We raise £300 more than last year. My partner's mother died from cancer and many people who took part had also lost people to the disease."
Cash is still pouring in from this year's ride, in June and the total currently stands at nearly £8,000.
Organiser Jill Greenaway said: "It was a brilliant effort, and the pubs is already taking names for next year's event.
"It is a lovely way of raising money because everyone is pleased to see each other and looks out for each other."
The appeal is well on the way to reaching the £600,000 target and currently stands at £408,383.
