I WISH to respond to Frank Avenell's comments about the Borough Council's budget and the Social Services crisis.
I suspect Frank of firstly being a Tory and secondly not knowing much about council expenditure.
He praises the Tory administration for maintaining reserves and tough talking over the £1.9m Social Services overspend but it is the same administration that allowed the overspend to happen. The same administration proposed to use reserves to prop up this year's council budget, which would have given less to Social Services than the successful Labour/Lib Dem budget.
Frank also condemned Labour's Barrie Thompson for advocating more street cleaning and lower council tax rises.
Many would support him over the council tax rises but recent consultations show the majority of residents want cleaner streets.
