I WRITE in response to the article in last week's Gazette, 'Diversion has people fuming'.
Having read the article I would like to applaud the diversion of traffic away from Herd Street using Kingsbury Street as the alternative route. As a Herd Street resident I am pleased that others have realised how much we have to endure living on such a busy road. The "noise, fumes, dust and rubbish" mentioned by Mrs Sue Benz are constant for us and we too find it "intolerable".
I am staggered that such heavy
traffic is allowed to pass through our beautiful town. There are many
attractive listed homes on Herd Street that are polluted by fumes, noise and litter, making property maintenance hellish. We make every effort to keep our house smart and in keeping with our lovely town but are fighting a losing battle against articulated lorries and heavy machinery.
This week we heard national news reports about the use of cars increasing in the last year.
Has anybody ever considered a bypass to avoid one of the most historic areas of town?
