CHIPPENHAM NEWS: CHILDREN gave up the use of their right hand for a day to raise awareness of difficulties and disabilities.
Staff and youngsters celebrated National Left-Handers Day at Leapfrog Day Nursery in Chippenham on Friday.
Over 20 children played games, painted and ate their lunch only using their left hands.
The youngsters also made special cut outs of their hands for a special display at the nursery.
Mary Mulvihill, base room manager of toddlers, said: "The children really enjoyed it. We put stickers on their left hands and played games where they could not use their other hand.
"They tried to eat with their left hand too that got a little bit messy.
"It's all about trying to remember that other people are different. They must understand that people do things differently.
"Often they would say 'you are using the wrong hand' but this is not the case, it's not always about right and wrong.
"But we all had a big giggle about it and it was a lovely fun day."
The nursery will be holding multi-cultural events later this month to mark the Notting Hill Carnival.
Nursery manager, Michelle Fernandez said: "National Left-Handers Day was great fun for the children at Leapfrog, and the activities are also designed to help make them aware of the difficulties faced by left-handed people."
