A WESTBURY good neighbour scheme hopes to recruit more volunteer drivers to help provide vital transport for pensioners.
Westbury and District Link, which covers the town and surrounding villages, is often a lifeline for senior citizens needing to get to shops, hospitals, and doctors' and dentists' surgeries.
Drivers need their own car and a few hours to spare on a regular or occasional basis.
Management committee chairman Phil Jefferson said: "Our team of volunteer drivers needs some new members because of our increasing workload. We also need more flexibility at holiday times and when drivers can't help us because of family or other commitments.
"All our drivers thoroughly enjoy their work. It's a great opportunity to get out into the community and meet people and to help run a much-needed service.
"We pay a generous rate for reimbursing travel expenses and drivers are never out of pocket. From time to time we organise a number of social and training events for members of the team."
Westbury and District Link is also needs more volunteers to man its phone line and join its management committee.
The scheme holds its annual meeting at Westbury Methodist Church at 7.30pm on September 18. Would-be volunteers can come along then or to any of the coffee mornings at the same venue on the first Thursday of the month between 10am and 11.30am.
