AN appeal published in the Wiltshire Times for volunteers to man a vital helpline service for rape victims has resulted in several people coming forward.
Since the appeal was published earlier this month three people have come forward to offer their services.
Training co-ordinator Pat Brookes said: "Three might not sound like a lot but it means a lot to us. We do need more people but this is a great start."
The rape helpline, run by Victim Support, needs at least nine more volunteers.
The helpline provides a non-judgmental service to victims of sexual assault, however long ago it happened, and to their families and friends.
The team consists of male and female volunteers, all of whom are fully trained and come from all over the county and from a range of backgrounds.
Last year it dealt with over 900 calls from people seeking support, six per cent of those from men.
The line operates from Devizes and Swindon and volunteers are asked to work a minimum of two shifts a month and to commit to being a volunteer for a year.
