WINSLEY responded to the previous week's defeat at Portishead with an impressive seven-wicket win at home to Hanham on Saturday.

With two matches of the season remaining, Winsley lie in sixth position in the Bristol and North Somerset League but have their sights set on climbing higher.

Local rivals Westbury, are narrowly ahead of them and with the two side's set to meet on the last day of the season there is still plenty to play for.

Winsley vice captain Pete Orchard, said: "It is very, very close between us and Westbury and the likelihood is it will go down to the last game of the season.

"The best finish we could hope for is fourth position but to get that we will have to win our remaining games.

"Saturday's win was a very good all-round display, we batted well but most importantly we fielded well."

Winsley won the toss and put Hanham into bat and some tight bowling immediately put the visitors onto the back foot.

Andy cross, Simon Orchard and Pete Orchard all took three wickets apiece as Hanham were bowled out for 108.

In reply, Winsley were always in control as they eased to their target with seven wickets remaining.

With a number of key players missing including captain John Spencer, Orchard was delighted.

He said: "We fielded quite a weakened side but it shows that we now have good strength in depth."
