FORMER Forest Green Rovers goalkeeper Chris Giannangelo is hoping a move to Chippenham will pave the way back into higher league football.
The Australian shot stopper is currently in talks with Bluebird boss Steve White about his future after spending the last two seasons on the substitutes bench at the Lawn.
A deal is not guaranteed, with former Bristol Rovers keeper Chris Astley also in contention, and White has admitted there will only be room in the budget to sign one of them.
Giannangelo, 27, was playing in the New South Wales League in Australia before he moved to conference side Forest Green Rovers in 2002.
Since then he has had to settle for being the reserve behind first choice keeper Steve Perrin and he believes it is now time to look for first team football.
He said: "I am still trying to finalise something with Steve but obviously getting injured in pre-season has put it all back a bit.
"I just want to play football because after spending two years in reserve I am desperate to get back.
"Hopefully somebody will give me a chance to show what I can do and then hopefully someone will be impressed and I can go back up again.
"This is more a case of going down a level to try and get back up again."
