28540/3A NEW community officer has joined the ranks at Warminster Police Station to support the fight against anti-social behaviour.
Police Community Support Officer Caroline Wright will assist regular officers by getting to know people in the town and providing a visible presence on the streets.
Her role will see her posted to trouble spots for anti-social crime in Warminster and act as a first port of call for residents' concerns.
PCSO Wright was among the first batch of community officers who started work in Trowbridge in March 2003, but before that she worked with adults with learning difficulties.
She said: "The job is really a chance to get out and meet more people and make a difference. It's good to get to know all the kids so they know you as well. It works both ways when dealing with and preventing crime."
Acting Sgt Dave Mills, of Warminster police, said: "There are areas we know are little hot spots in the town and that's where we'll be targeting. These are places like housing estates where there are children and the town park.
"PCSOs have been very successful in towns like Trowbridge and Melksham. People feel safer and there is less fear of crime."
PCSO Wright started work in Warminster last week and will be joined in October by a second officer who is currently being trained.
