Can anyone help? I recall being born and bred in Staverton and that the original village is situated between two bridges where locals were sure of being hired or fired by Nestl.
The original historic village lies near to the river Avon with its beautiful church overlooking Bradford woods and the river.
It also has an old pub and Methodist Chapel which holds many memories to village people.
This is what I call the heart of Staverton, and people then were content with the quiet and simple life.
Sadly now the road is grid-locked most days, the factory is on the verge of closing, the picturesque view of what used to be a boathouse now appears to be a rubbish tip and no-one cares.
Now I see that big-hearted developers have proposed a plan to put a heart into Staverton a mile away at the marina, which they call Staverton, because it suits them.
It would be more credit to them if they get on and build a bypass road and give the original Staverton breathing space.
