FATHER-OF-FOUR Brian Reilly was given 60 hours community service after spitting twice at police and threatening two youths outside a Trowbridge pub.

The 35-year-old was arrested outside the John Bull pub, Studley Green, at 10.55pm on June 18.

Reilly, of Alderburgh Place, Trowbridge, was sentenced by Chippenham magistrates on Tuesday after admitting the public order offence and assaulting a police constable at an earlier hearing.

Andy Pritchard, prosecuting, said police had to restrain Reilly when they found him shouting and gesticulating at the youths.

He said Reilly then "spat in one of the officer's direction. He took evasive action, but ended up with the spit in his ear and hair."

Reilly spat at the officer again, this time on his leg.

Andrew Watts-Jones, defending, said his client was now looking after his four young children while his wife worked the night shift at a cosmetics factory. He said Reilly was seeking help for alcohol and drug problems and making very good progress.

Reilly was ordered to pay £50 compensation and £43 costs.
