SWINDON Supermarine dug deep to grind out a 1-1 draw against pre-season Division One West favourites Bromsgrove Rovers.

Dave Gee's late equaliser gave Marine a deserved point in an all-action display at Hunts Copse.

Fans of the South Marston club have seen a bit of everything already in the first three games of the season, with a stunning win at Bedworth on the opening day followed by a disappointing defeat to Evesham and now a ding-dong draw with much fancied Rovers.

Marine manager Mark Collier said: "That's one win, one defeat and one draw.

"I suppose the school report at this stage is 'could do better'.

"First half we started a lot better than we had done in the previous two matches.

"But they scored with 15 minutes of the first half to go and it was a sloppy goal on our part.

"Second half we pressed and pressed and pressed not with great quality but it always looked like we were the team that were going to score.

"We more than deserved our draw.

"There is good character here and the lads are disappointed we've only drawn that's a good sign for the future."

Marine trailed to Mark Benbow's goal at the break, though both sides were guilty of missing good chances.

The hosts had the ball in the net on 20 minutes when Steve Davies cushioned header was turned in by Luke Jones only for the goal to be disallowed with Davies deemed guilty of pushing in the build up.

Marine keeper Tom King then denied Paul Szewczyk and Jones had a shot deflected behind.

Bromsgrove's Marcus Jackson fired wastefully over when well placed and Dave Toomey was twice thwarted by Bromsgrove keeper Matt Lowe before the deadlock was finally broken on 43 minutes.

Marine's defence failed to clear an initial shot from Szewczyk and Benbow fired the ball low through a mass of bodies to give his side the lead.

Bromsgrove had a goal ruled out early in the second half when Szewczyk clearly used his hand to nudge the ball into the back of the net.

Ross Collins shook the bar on 75 minutes before Szewczyk forced a fine save from King.

Marine levelled with five minutes remaining when Gee turned and fired into the top corner from 12 yards out.

The celebrations were very nearly short lived. Collins' headed goal a minute later was chalked off for an apparent push on Ian Howell in the build up not unlike Marine's disallowed effort in the first half.
