I READ that Swindon was the least disabled friendly place in England with disbelief.
As a disabled person myself, very often wheelchair-bound, I have been in or worked in every one of Swindon's main offices for many years.
When the Steam Museum was being built I, with others, spent many hours working at Empire House on the design of disabled and walking wounded lavatories.
I have chaired committees in the Civic Offices about disablement with committee members in electric wheelchairs, deaf members, blind members and members with multiple disabilities. We were all looked after sensitively and well.
Officers and members have always been most helpful to me and, I am sure, to others.
I am a Governor at Hreod Parkway School and I have been closely involved with the work going on for the new school.
It has been my experience that, when I voiced any concern about the disabled provisions for any member of the school community, that concern has been fully and carefully met.
I look forward with confidence to the provision of a school that will provide for the needs of all our pupils and other school community members.
I can only hope that when the survey is completed, Swindon will be given the place it deserves.
I do not expect perfection but, from my own experience of many years, I expect to see Swindon high up on the list.
