CHIPPENHAM face two games in four days with a trip to Hitchin on Saturday and then a game against Gloucester City at home on Tuesday night.

Hitchin have had a good start to their season. They beat Hendesford Town 2-1 on the opening day and were unlucky to go down 4-3 to Aylesbury United after coming back from three down.

On Saturday they won 2-1 at in form Kings Lynn despite going a goal down in the first half.

But they slipped up on Tuesday night when they lost 1-0 home to Grantham.

The result left them tenth, four points away from Chippenham.

Manager and former Chelsea and England striker Kerry Dixon is pleased with his team so far. He said: "We have a young side and are well organised. I think we can upset a few teams this year."

He said they play attractive football down the wings and have strength in the air, with six of their seven goals coming from crosses.

Dixon says Stuart Maynard who played for Watford two seasons ago, is their player to watch out for. He was their player of the year last term and has assisted five goals this season. Four of them have come from crosses and the other one was a clever through ball. He also has a powerful shot and likes to try his luck from outside the box.

Chippenham are at home in their next game against Gloucester City next Tuesday. The visitors are currently on seven points have a good start to their campaign. They started with a goalless draw against Bedford Town. They then scrapped for a tight 2-1 victory over Team Bath. Defender Keith Knight converted penalty and striker Dave Wilkinson scored the winner.

Gloucester were at home against Dunstable Town last Saturday. The score ended 3-1 with Wilkinson grabbing his second of the season. Tom Webb and Marvin Thompson scored the others.

Chippenham will have to watch out for striker Lee Davis who is on loan from Coca Cola League Two side Cheltenham Town. He has been a professional at Cheltenham for three years and is a danger up front.

Last year's Dr Martens Golden Boot winner Andy Hoskins will be back from a suspension and right winger Lee Smith has been tormenting defences already this term.

Gloucester manager Chris Burns said: "Smith will be good down the wing. He has had a few clubs looking at him and he is good enough to play in the Conference. We have plenty up front and will be firing on all cylinders."

Gloucester will be missing key central defender Adam Howarth who is at home in the Isle of White and does not return for a few weeks.
