13896/3CARNIVAL fun runners rose early to complete a 5km route around Malmesbury on Sunday. Some 15 eager people turned up for the event at 9am.
Starting at Malmesbury Activity Zone, they followed a path along the river, past the Duke of York pub, then puffed up Foxley Road.
The winner was Tom Burgess from Charlton in 15 mins 47. Second place went to Robin Aconley from Malmesbury in 15 mins 59. Third place went to Bob Charman, from Malmesbury, in 17 mins 14. Dave Goodwin-Fielding, Activity Zone health and fitness manager, said the group was lively and keen.
He said: "Everybody knew it was a bit of fun. I would not say they were very competitive, but the feedback we got was excellent.
Mr Goodwin-Fielding said staff were now hoping to organise a 10km run in October. Anyone interested should call (01666) 822533.
