MARSHFIELD, with a game to play, need just one point to be certain of the championship and an immediate return to the Wilts and Glos Division Two next season.
In their penultimate game they entertained mid- table Westinghouse and scored 253-9 thanks to Dan Watson 48, James Williams 62 and John Sexton 39. Westinghouse were then bowled out for 140, with John Peters 60 top scoring.
Nearest challengers Great Bedwyn slipped up at Bath Civil Service, losing by three wickets.
Chris gale took 4-48 in 11 overs for the Civil Service as they bowled their visitors out for 169 in which Rob Palmer topped scored with 62. With a steady 42 from Matthew Smith Civil Service gained their win with almost three overs to spare.
Calne, in third place, were unable to take advantage of Bedwyn's slip as they lost to a rejuvenated Box side who gained their third win in four matches to move into eight place.
Calne were restricted to 135 all out, Lian Botes 36 and Dave Crawford taking 6-28. Dave then top scored with 37 as Box picked up a three wicket victory. Potterne dragged Nationwide House down to ninth as they won for just the third time but look doomed.
Thanks to Sam Gaiger 67, Potterne totalled 171 all out as Pete Harman took 3-25 in 9.3 overs. Fred Kerley 3-31 in 13.3 overs and Lee Sanders 4-34 in 11 then bowled Nationwide out for 156 as Dave Milne top scored with 54. The mid table clash at Collingbourne, who entertained Purton ended with the visitors winning by just two runs.
Purton, with 77 from John Gardner scored 193-7. In reply, Ben Nicholls 60 and Graham Chandler 54 took Collingbourne to 191 all out. Division Two
With the top three sides all winning, promotion looks to rest on the match between Cooper-Avon Tyres, currently third, and Spye Park the present leaders who meet next week.
Realistically however the balance of probability favours Spye Park who have a 23 point cushion at present. Spye currently lead Lechlade by three points and they look the most likely candidates to go up.
Spye Park entertained Urchfont and dismissed them for 140, Mark Bateman 46 and John Beal taking 3-13 in 13 overs and Dave Beal 2-45 in 15.
With John Haines 62 not out and Ross Pagett 27, Spye gained a comfortable seven wicket victory with ten overs to spare. Wade Williams with 1-45 in 15 overs bowled well for Urchfont.
Lechlade restricted visiting Swindon Civil Service to 156-7 in which Mike Giddings top scored with 34. Opener Roger Pettifer 47 not out and Rizwan Khan 39 then helped Lechlade to a six wicket success with five overs remaining.
Cooper-Avon Tyres visited struggling Burbage and ER and kept them to 163-8, Roger Barker 59 not out and Nick Cook 31 the top scorers as Richard Jory took 4-59 in 15 overs.
With Dean Wallington 45 not out and Dave Light 36 not out, Cooper-Avon won by six wickets with five overs left. This was their tenth win in a row and their poor start looks to have told against them this season.
At the foot of the table, Seagry move above Burbage following their 23 run win at Sutton Veny. Paul Lewis 82 not out and Steve Thompsett 48 helped Seagry to 181-2. Mike Hunt then took 7-26 in 10 overs to restrict the Sutton Veny reply to 158-9 with Andy Frost 56 top scoring.
Division Three
HERE to the top three sides all won. Avebury look almost certain to take the title with Blunsdon, thanks to two outstanding matches should overtake Wanborough.
Avebury scored 241-6 at home to Wroughton Wranglers with Rob Gater 78, and Greg Dix 86 not out; whilst Paul Hunt with 3-63 in 14 overs was the pick of the Wroughton attack.
When they batted however Wroughton had no answer to the Avebury attack and were bowled out for 55 in 29 overs; Mike Gregory 29. The damage being done by Peter Force-Jones 3-5 in 5 overs, Greg 3-12 in 5 and Rob 1-4 in 9. Wanborough visited bottom of the table Highworth and scored 188 all out with Tom Clinning 58 and Rob Wilson 40. Lee Beaver taking 5-29 in an accurate spell.
Highworth however, despite 46 from Vijay, were bowled out for 111 with Alan Thompson taking 4-32 in 13 overs. Blunsdon bowled visiting Heytesbury out for 121, of which Paul Akworth made 31 as Darren Fisher took 8-47 in 12.5 overs. Openers Julian Beckett 65 not out and John Hancock 48 not out then took Blunsdon to a ten wicket victory in their twenty eighth over.
The mid table meeting between Lambourn and Cherhill ended in a comfortable seven wicket victory for visitors Cherhill after they had bowled their hosts out for just 66.
Dave Welling 3-12 in 15 accurate overs and Garry Vaughan 4-37 in 15 doing most of the damage. Steve Mundy replied with 3-29 in 8 overs, but then Mike Coles 29 not out and Ben Webber 29 not out steered Cherhill home in sixteen overs.
Division Four
LIKELY promotion candidates appear to be Corsham 3rd and Wilcot who both have a game in hand over third-placed Bradford Town.
Corsham 3rd restricted bottom of the table Westbury 3rd to 132-9, with Phil Mead 37 and Andy Nicholls taking 4-22 in 11 overs. Alistair Goddard 66 not out and Pete Greenwood 31 not out, then saw Corsham home by ten wickets.
Wilcot visited Bathford and with Graham Smith taking 5-58 in 15 overs, bowled them out for 160.
The bulk of the runs came from Andrew Murray 80 and Steve Bull 51. Wilcot went on to win by four wickets with Sam Unit 28 not out and Steve Cassell 29 top scoring. Daryll Watts took 2-38 in 15 accurate overs.
Dauntsey Gentlemen visited Coates and made 206-9 with Brian Scotford 86 as Scot McAllister took 7-56. The Clampitt brothers then took four wickets apiece as Coates were dismissed for 157, Mark Robinson 37 and Tim Samson 34 top scoring.
Keevil slip down to eighth place after losing at home to Swindon Litten Tree by six wickets. Simon Gunstone 40 top scored in a Keevil total of 123 as John Brown took 4-19. Mike Brown 56 not out then led Litten Tree to their win with fourteen overs remaining.
Division Five
THE top three sides, Marshfield 2nd, Nationwide House 2nd and Purton 2nd, all won.
Marshfield look most likely to become champions while second place will probably come down to who gets most bonus points in their final matches next week.
Nationwide are in pole position with a four point advantage over Purton. Westinghouse's run of wins came to an end as Marshfield bowled them out for just 75 with Garry Pullin taking 5-17 in 15 overs.
Andrew Day however made sure the leaders had to fight for victory as he took 6-49 in 14 overs, before Marshfield finally won by three wickets.
Nationwide bowled Warminster 3rd out for just 49 and went on to win by ten wickets. Steve Lewis 6-14 in 14 overs and Chris Trewhella 3-31 in 14, did the damage with the ball and then Jason Griffiths hit 26 not out.
Purton 2nd bowled visiting United Churches out for 137. Paul Tims scored 65 whilst Joe Dunne took 5-43. Paul Mottar 64 not out and Chris Newman 29 not out then saw Purton to a six wicket victory with 11 overs to spare.
The mid-table meeting of Buscot Park 2nd and Devizes 3rd ended in a 22-run success for Devizes.
They scored 168-6 with John Wookey 46 and Steve Drewitt 31 while for Buscot Glen Townsend took 3-51 in 15 overs and Will Townsend 1-25 in 11. Barry Reid 3-23 in 10 and Tom Barnham 2-33 in 11 overs responded for Devizes and despite Tim Manners 47 and Des Williams 20, Buscot were dismissed for 146 in their f42nd over.
Division Six
BEEHIVE Bradford, Chippenham 3rd and Nettleton are the three sides in contention for promotion.
Beehive Look most likely to go up as champions, having a 12 point advantage over Chippenham, who are one point better off than Nettleton.
All three sides should win next week, so it will be down to whoever can gain most bonus points between Chippenham and Nettleton.
Long time leaders Nettleton lost for the second week in a row. Having restricted visitors All Cannings to 124-6; Andy Legge 42 not out, Elliott Gambel 33 and Andy Cousins taking 3-27 in 14 overs; they collapsed to 61 all out as Keith Bills took 5-26 in 14 overs.
Beehive Bradford profited from this slip and go top after a six wicket victory at bottom placed Wootton Bassett 3rd, who they bowled out for 107.
Chippenham 3rd were dismissed for 159 at Bradford Town 2nd as Chris Day top scored with 56 and John Whiteman 23. Ben Edwards bowled well to take 3-15 in his 15 overs.
Bradford struggled for runs as Steve Merryweather took 3-18 in 12.5 overs, Andrew Merryweather 2-17 in 7 and Chris Day 2-29 in 9 overs. Bradford were bowled out for 103.
Calne 2nd arrested their bad run with a comfortable 109 run win over lowly Box 2nd. Calne made 207-8 thanks to Chris Cottis 44 not out and Darren Holcombe 41 as Dave Cook took 4-20 in 14 overs.
Chris Eades responded woth 4-50 in 14 as Box were bowled out for 99.
Goatacre 3rd managed only 91 all out at Lacock as Chris Harding took 3-21 and Colin Rawlings 4-34. Barry Harding, 30, then helped Lacock to a seven wicket victory.
Division Seven
TROWBRIDGE A should be favourites to take the tite as they have a match in hand.
Second place will depend on the result of Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nd's visit to third placed Collingbourne 2nd.
Collingbourne slipped from first to third as they lost by nine wickets at Trowbridge.
Collingbourne made a respectable 183-9 with John Reese 69 as Graham Booth with 3-22 in six overs was Trowbridge's most successful bowler. Dave Gibson 82 not out and Alan Ayland 65 not out then led the Trowbridge reply which saw them to victory with five overs in hand.
Cooper-Avon 2nd raced to 255-7 at home to bath Civil Service 2nd with Steve Collett 66, Jack Woodward 53 and Andrew Hillman with 52 leading the way.
Paul Hunt, 5-28 in 11.3 overs, and Steve Purnell, 4-30 in 12, then saw the visitors bowled out for 74.
At the foot of the table Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nd. moved above Beanacre 2nd as they beat them by 77 runs. Steve Ponting 50 and Rich Berryman 27 helped Dauntsey to 145 all out as Andy Storey took 3-29 in 14 overs and Paul Gilbert 3-34 in 6.
Beanacre were then dismissed for just 68; Paul 29; as Neil Thomas had 3-14 in 10 overs and Rich 3-28 in 15.
The mid table meeting of Cherhill 2nd and Corsham 4th saw them change places as Corsham won by 80 runs.
For Corsham Alan Smith made 74 and Paul Smith 40 in their total of 167-7 while Dave Hewins picked up 3-35 in 8 overs for Cherhill. Terry Rogers then took 6-21 in 14 steady overs to see Cherhill all out for 87, which but for Steve Hutchinson's 44 not out would have been much worse.
Division Eight
LIKELY promotion candidates here are long term leaders Biddestone 3rd. and Chippenham 4th.
Biddestone still have a ten point margin but have stumbled over the last couple of weeks. At Chippenham the host side scored 190-9 with runs from Majid Quereshi 28, Taff Davis 44 and Andy Dyer 27, whilst Chris Casey took 3-35 in 8 overs and Alan Christopher 4-48 in 15.
Biddestone then struggled for runs against some accurate bowling and were restricted to 101-7; Chris 27 and Dave Smith 22 as Majid took 2-25 in 14 overs and Hashnir Quereshi 2-25 in 13.
Devizes 4th go third as they defeated visiting Bathford 2nd.XI by 151 runs. Phil Ashman 102 not out and Graham Pearce 99 helped Devizes to 253-5 with Ian Waller taking 4-93 in 14 overs.
Only Les McKenzie 20 and Ian 20 not out then offered much resistance as Bathford were dismissed for 100. At the foot of the table, Blunsdon 2nd visited All Cannings 2nd and came away with a three wicket victory.
All Cannings scored 173 all out with Richard Sykes 45 and Mike Goden 34 as Des Walker took 4-58 in 15 overs and Dave Butler 3-29 in 11.4.
Tom Winter's 55 then helped Blunsdon to their win as Garry Hargreaves took 2-36 in 12 overs. Swindon 4th, thanks to Phil Laggatt's 125 not out scored 234-4 at United Churches 2nd.
Ed Read 2-5 in 5 overs and Richard Barratt 3-51 in 15 then helped bowl Churches out for 122; in which Dave Martin 38 and John Pazzard 23 not out top scored.
