Swindon gained promotion to Wilts and Glos division one after a comfortable 137-run win over relegation-threatened local rivals Wootton Bassett.

John Baden's side will go up as champions if they gain just five points from their final match at Hatherley and Reddings.

Against Bassett, Baden won the toss and elected to bat on the usual run-producing Swindon wicket.

The opening pair of Rourke and Nichols got away to a fine start, taking the score to 115 in the 20th over.

Rourke was in his usual belligerent mood, having scored 75 of the total which included only five singles.

In the 21st over however, Nichols was stumped by Bassett captain Chattell for 36 when chasing a slow ball from Lee Stevens.

Baden then kept Rourke company for another 45 runs as Rourke reached his century in only 93 balls, his second 50 coming in only 32 balls.

Rourke was on 105 when caught by Lukens off Stevens. Swindon by this time were well placed on 163-2, with 15 overs remaining.

Big hitting late in the Swindon innings enabled the home side to reach 268-7.

Bassett knew that six an over was needed to give them any chance of winning the game and to help in avoiding relegation back to the Wiltshire League.

Openers Chahal and Lukens began relatively smoothly until disaster struck in the ninth over when Willoughby had Chahal caught by wicket keeper Staff for 14.

Griffiths followed four balls later, caught by Rourke without troubling the scorers.

Lukens was then dismissed by Barrett, Staff again taking the catch behind the stumps, and Barrett bowled Burns in the 14th over, which left Bassett reeling on 36-4 and a mountain to climb.

Captain Chattell attempted to push the score on until change bowler Zohaib had both him and Danny Stevens removed within four balls of each other.

Only the injured Steve Twine showed any real resistance, and he was eventually caught by Baker off the other change bowler Rourke, for a hard-earned 21.

Andy Stevens and number nine Jefferies tried to wag the tail, but this was undone by Rourke, who bowled Jefferies for 15 and his replacement Lee Stevens for a duck within four balls, leaving Bassett on 108-9 in the 34th over.

Last man Lancaster and Stevens made a stand of 23 before Zohaib accounted for Lancaster, Bassett bowled out well short for 131.
