TEENAGER Courtney Earl has been called up to the West of England under 13s side only three years after taking up the sport.

Earl, 13, from Brook Way, has already progressed from the Calne youth side to the men's first team and is hoping the rise continues on to a county side.

He has just finished his first regional tournament for West of England, hitting over 50 runs and taking five wickets in one of his first games.

The promising all-rounder, who received his first West of England cap from Somerset all-rounder Keith Parsons, said: "When I was selected it was a big shock and I thought it's a big achievement for just three years.

A student at John Bentley school, Earl said he would like to play for Somerset or Gloucestershire, and has dreams of following his idol Andrew Flintoff into the England team.

"Playing for West of England should get me a lot higher with other counties and they are looking at me now.

"Hampshire have asked me to come for academy training at their selection day on Sunday. I would then play for them as well as Wiltshire.

"I just enjoy the atmosphere of it when everyone's clapping you and then club cricket is a bit more fun and enjoyable with your mates."

With career best figures of 6 for 13 runs in an under 11 match for North Wiltshire against Kennet, and a high score of 157 not out for Calne under 13s, Earle's glad Pete Knight, his coach at Calne Cricket Club, asked him along.
