Caly Dancer (6-1 co-favourite) took the honours with Jimmy Fortune in the saddle in the 6.35pm contest before Dane O'Neill and Topkat (11-1) returned Elsworth to the winners' enclosure in the following race.

Elsworth, trainer of Norse Dancer who landed the Sovereign Stakes earlier this month, is now the top trainer at the course this season with six wins.

Elsworth was celebrating again on Sunday when Gold Medallist, a winner at Salisbury in May 2003, triumphed in the Group Two Prix Kergolay race at Deauville, France.

Ridden by Richard Hughes, the 33-1 success was a particularly poignant one for owner Jeff Smith.

Gold Medallist led from the start of the one-mile, seven-furlong contest, in similar gutsy fashion to Smith's Persian Punch, also trained by Elsworth, who tragically died in action earlier this year.

Elsworth hinted that Gold Medallist may now take part in November's Melbourne Cup.

Shrewton-based trainer Dr Jeremy Naylor enjoyed a night to remember on Thursday evening at Chepstow.

The unfancied Indian Chase (20-1) and Heart Springs (12-1) gave the Cleeve Stables boss the first one-two of his career.

"It was a great feeling walking into the ring afterwards with the first two in the race," said Naylor who currently has 20 horses at his Shrewton yard.

Only three-quarters of a length separated the horses at the post.

"It was a very pleasant surprise," added Naylor who hinted that both would make a quick reappearance at either War-wick or Lingfield next week.
