DA6208P2.DOWNTON will be looking to bounce back quickly from their 6-0 defeat at home to Hamworthy United, their second 6-0 reverse in a week, and Saturday's FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Porthleven represents the ideal opportunity, writes Ryan Lovejoy.

The Cornish side will make the long journey to Wick Lane to face the Robins who have yet to pick up a point in three games.

They must now do without new central defender Andy McGlashan who broke his leg when they were 3-0 down in the first half.

Downton boss Mitch Blake said: "It was a big disappointment losing Andy and it was difficult to remotivate the lads after that.

"He was trying to knock a ball in from a set play but he caught someone's studs and we had a 15-20 minute delay to get him off the pitch. It's gutting for the lad because he only just came back from 14 months out with a cruciate ligament injury."

He added: "Porthleven will be a good side so we need to put ourselves around. I talked to our senior players and we decided that we need to go back to being hard to break down."

The Robins are hoping to reinforce their squad by signing former Salisbury City midfielder Dean Bowden, ahead of Tuesday's Wessex League derby at Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Blake said: "Those two games are down to personal pride between the teams. Bemerton are flying so our new lads will have to dig deep."
