MELKSHAM picked up their first points of the season, their first clean sheet and lifted themselves off the bottom of the table on Monday.

Two goals from Steve Wickins, one from Jamie Harrison and another from Owen Bryant sealed the win.

It provided soem relief after losing to an 87th minute goal at home to Bridport on Saturday.

Manager Nigel Tripp was ecstatic. He said: "The lads had some fire in their bellies for a change. It was nice to keep a clean sheet. There were no under achievers the whole team played well. It was good to see them bounce back after Saturday's result."

Wickins' second goal particularly delighted Tripp. It came when centre back Darren Cheeseman broke down the middle with a marauding run from inside his own box.

He skipped round four players ran down the right side of the box and chipped it to Wickins who volley it from 15 yards to rattle the back of the net. Tripp said: "It was a fantastic goal. He is a defender and should not have done that in case he lost the ball. But it was an amazing run."

Melksham now tackle Torrington on Saturday at home.
