Fans witnessed to two send offs, a penalty save and four goals in an action packed game at Nursteed Road on Tuesday night.

Despite the outstanding spectacle, Devizes assistant manager John Freegard was far from impressed with the end result at home.

He said: "This might have been entertaining for the fans, but not for me. We gave away a two goal lead and lost a player just after half time."

It didn't take long for the frenzy to start as Devizes took the lead after just two minutes.

A David Macey through ball found David Mehew, who fired home from 15 yards to give Devizes the lead.

On nine minutes Kevin Bush brought down Daniel Badman just inside the box to earn his first yellow card and to give Welton a penalty.

Rob Salmon stepped up to take the spot kick, but Devizes keeper Andy King's saved the show with his legs.

The ball went straight back to Salmon but the keeper was up to the task again and put Salmon's second effort around the post.

The rest of the half was a scrappy affair, mostly fought out in the centre of the park, and it took Devizes just over 40 minutes to double their lead.

On the stroke of half time Brian Kayll crossed in to see David Lloyd rise high and head the ball home at the back post.

The second half started as quick as the first, but this time it was Welton who grabbed an early goal.

On 48 minutes a beautifully weighted through ball from Mark Bidditteri found its way to Salmon, who hit a hard drive into the back of the Devizes net.

Eight minutes later, Bush put in another harsh challenge in the air, in the process elbowing Andy Gulliford.

The referee had no choice but to give him his second yellow card, and subsequently a red, much to the anguish of Bush.

From the resulting free kick Welton were level.

Simon Lock floated in the cross from the set piece and picked out Bidditteri to head in, once again at the back post.

From there Devizes did well to hold on and not concede as Rovers had a few chances to score.

Chris Huish made a great run down the right wing on 68 minutes, but his cross just missed the outstretched leg of Rob Salmon.

Devizes fought not to concede with only ten men on the field, and four minutes from time, the numbers were even.

Scorer Salmon, who had been booked in the first half for a tough challenge, was given a second yellow for dissent as he kicked the ball away after a foul.

Freegard was not happy with the result or the incidents during the game. He said: "I'm disappointed as we went in at half time two up. We told the lads to keep their discipline and concentration but within ten minutes the scores were even and we had a man missing.

"After that the lads were professional to keep the scores level."

Devizes are at home against Exmouth on Saturday in the first preliminary round of the FA Cup.
