PEWSEY boss Steve Wootton was left fuming after keeper Lee Wilson was sent off on Saturday.

Pewsey were a goal up until goalkeeper Lee Wilson was sent off for handling out of his box. Manager Steve Wootton thought that the keeper could have stayed on. He said: "I have seen goalies stay on for doing that."

Wootton had no back-p keeper on the bench so midfielder Matthew Messenger went between the sticks. He used to play in goal for six-a-side teams, so he was not a complete stranger to goalkeeping.

Pewsey were pushed back early on but gradually worked their way in to the game.

On 18 minutes a Tom Ritchie free kick was floated into the box but Messenger was unable make contact.

Straight after that a well placed kick out, by the Vale's Wilson, put Paul Fisher on a great run up the left side, Fisher's cross clipped the angle of the far post.

Bicester lost Lawrence Allen. He fell awkwardly and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Pewsey took the lead from the penalty spot after Messenger was upended in the box on the stroke of half-time. Ritchie then converted the spot kick.

On 51 minutes Wilson made his handling error and headed for his early bath. Messenger made two decisive saves as Bicester piled on the pressure.

It was just a matter of time until Bicester scored against ten men and they got the breakthrough after 75 minutes when Pewsey thought the linesman had flagged for offside when in fact it was a foul. The ref played the advantage and Spencer Warr buried from close range.

Seven minutes later a bad clearance from Chris Oram left Bicester's Michael Wyatt with a tap in.

Two minutes from time Bicester finished the game when Richard Pearson attempted to head the ball over the bar. Unfortunately it hit the post and fell to Mickey Marshall who made it three for the visitors.

Wootton said: "Today was just one of those things. On another day our keeper would have stayed on and we might have won."

Pewsey face a trip to Woottton Bassett on Sunday, kick off 7pm.
