71921-59A KINDHEARTED pensioner has put a smile on the face of little Conner Gleed. The six-year-old was heartbroken when burglars broke into his bedroom and stole his favourite toy a PlayStation.
And Conner is now too scared to sleep in his bed because he fears the villains will return.
Advertiser reader Brian Breakspear was so moved when he read our story yesterday that he decided to help. He was given a PlayStation by his son, but being a self-confessed technophobe he never managed to get the hang of the games.
So he has given the console to Conner.
The 65-year-old retired lab worker, of Deburgh Street, Rodbourne, said: "My son Mark gave it to me when he brought a newer model.
"I'm not really into computer games, but I'm a bit of a hoarder so I said I'd have it.
"I managed to get it working, but the games were too fast for me. I think I'll stick to gardening. I thought about giving it to Conner as soon as I read the story.
"I hope he gets a lot of pleasure from it."
Conner's mother, Carla Doole, 22, was bowled over when the Advertiser told her of Mr Breakspear's generosity.
"Oh my God that's amazing," she said.
"Conner will be thrilled to bits. I can't wait to see his little face light up.
"He just hasn't been the same since the burglary."
Thieves broke into Conner's bedroom via an open window last Wednesday.
They also took £120 in coppers his family had been saving to spend on holiday.
Since the break-in, Conner has been sleeping on the sofa of his home in Kitchener Street, Gorse Hill.
He wakes up crying in the night fearing the crooks will come back.
Soon after Mr Breakspear contacted the Advertiser, we received a second offer of a PlayStation from another generous reader.
